In April 2009, Philip Markoff started targeting women who had placed ads on Craigslist and committed multiple robberies and one murder when he met with them. After he was arrested for the crimes, Markoff took his own life before he was tried, and denied justice to his victims and the families of his victims.

Missing:   

Marvin Clark, who vanished while traveling from Tigard to Portland to visit his daughter, is the subject of the oldest active missing persons case in the U.S.

Shorts:

 16-year-old Brenda Spencer perpetrated a mass shooting at Grover Cleveland Elementary School from her home across the street, killing two staff members and wounding nine others simply because she “didn’t like Mondays,” leading to a life sentence and her continued imprisonment today. 

A-Z:

 Rex Heuermann was arrested for murder in July 2023 and accused of being the Gilgo Beach Killer. He claimed he was innocent. Evidence that has connected Heuermann to the murders includes DNA, a “blueprint” he had used, and more. On April 8, 2026, Heuermann admitted that he murdered eight women over 17 years (between 1993 and 2010), and he changed his plea to guilty. 

Missing:

 21-year-old Mary Virginia “Jimmie” Carpenter vanished after arriving in Denton, Texas, for college on June 1, 1948, leaving behind a decades-long cold case marked by suspicious witness testimony from a taxi driver and various unconfirmed sightings across the country.

Shorts:

The California jury has convicted Joshua Camp, Stephen Lindsay, Kaleb Charters, and Kurtis Charters for the murder of Tushar Atre. Joshua Camps was found guilty of several offenses, including first-degree murder, burglary, and kidnapping of Tushar Atre on October 1, 2019. 

A-Z:

 Between August and November of 1888, a killer known as Jack the Ripper murdered five women and mutilated four of them in the Whitechapel district of London, England. The cases have never been solved, but several who have studied the cases over the years have theorized that different suspects are the Ripper. 

Missing:

Authorities and the FBI are investigating the disappearance of 17-year-old Morgan Crenshaw from Antioch, California, as part of a potential human trafficking pattern involving two other young Black women and a suspect with interstate access, such as a truck driver.

Shorts:

Ayman Ghazali drove his truck into the front doors of Temple Israel in West Bloomfield Township, Michigan, on March 12, 2026. After he became trapped in his vehicle and a fire started, Ghazali shot at others in a gunfight, then took his own life. A large number of fireworks and what appeared to be gasoline were found in his vehicle.

After years of grooming and stalking, 13-year-old Jessyca Mullenberg was kidnapped from Wisconsin and held captive in a Texas motel for three months by her former mentor, Steven Oliver, until a televised tip led to her rescue and his subsequent 40-year prison sentence.

A-Z:

The 2017 murders of four young men on a Pennsylvania farm by cousins Cosmo DiNardo and Sean Kratz triggered a decade of high-profile legal battles, including wrongful death settlements against DiNardo's parents and a failed negligence lawsuit against his psychiatrist. 

Shorts:

Kouri Richins murdered her husband, Eric, for financial gain, then wrote a book for their three children about how to cope with his loss. Holes in her story led to her eventual arrest and guilty verdict.
